Wood Blinds The Foundation Of Awesome Window Treatments

You walk into a room, stop dead in your tracks and gaze with rapture at the awesome wood blinds. When the foundation of any window treatment is a wood blind, be it horizontal or vertical, people will stare.

The next thing they will do is to go over and touch the blind, stroking the finish and marveling at the beauty of wood.

From the richness of mahogany and walnut to the excitement of light pine or natural, North American Hardwood blinds have that same look-at-me attitude.

They come in both the horizontal and vertical types. We cover Wood Vertical Blinds on a separate page so when I refer to wood blinds on this page I am talking about the horizontal type.

These good looking blinds look their best when they are mounted inside the window frame. When mounted outside they should have a side drapery panel over them, otherwise the edges of the blind show and that is not their best side to view.

Cloth tapes for the ladders are coming back in style and the choices are unlimited as to color and design. You can look at the awesome selection here icon

As you can see the choices of colors and prints are there even for the most discriminating. Years ago the choice was white, off white and maybe black. Life does get better.

If you like to sleep during the day then you will want to look at the no holes option. This allows no light to come through as the leveling holes in the blinds are eliminated and the horizontal slats float in the ladders or tapes.

On an inside frame mounted blind this option is not a problem as the window frame keeps the slats in place. If you are going to mount your blinds outside the frame you might want to consider this option carefully.

Have cranks at the bottom of your window? This is no problem as the blinds can be cut out at the bottom to fit around your cranks.

The standard position for the controls are to have the lift control on the right side of the blind as you are facing the blind and the tilt control on the left.

The tilt control come in two options. The first being a pair of strings that allow you to open or close the slats to let in light or to control privacy.

The second option is a wood wand that will do the same by turning the wand in your hand. I personally prefer the wand option. I like the looks of the wood wand as opposed to the strings hanging there.

You can eliminate all the cords by choosing the cord less option. This allows you to lower or raise the blind by a applying a little pressure on a tab at the center of the bottom headrail.

Another option for raising or lowering is the continuous cord option. The cord can be had on either the right or the left side and you just pull on the cord loop to move it up and down.

Unless you plan to raise and lower your blinds often the added cost of the continuous cord or the cord less option might not be worth it as most people hardly ever raise the blinds. They just control the light and the privacy by tilting the slats, leaving the blind in the down position 100% of the time.

I would be doing you a big disservice if I didn't mention that horizontal wood blinds have one defect in common. They love to collect dust. They make it their job to collect dust 24 hours a day, day-in, day-out.

If you are not fond of dusting and don't have a cleaning service you might want to consider another type of blind. Wood vertical blinds would solve this problem as they don't collect dust.

Wood blinds are available in three different sizes 1" wood blinds 2" wood blinds, 2 1/2" wood blinds Each of these sizes will be covered in their own page as the character and attributes of each size is different.

All-in-all wood blinds are awesome. They are a delight to look at, they feel soooo good and are the foundation of any stop em in their tracks, gorgeous to look at window treatment.
