What Are Your Window Treatments whispering About You?

Window treatments are one of the first things you notice, and judge the moment you are invited into a home. You do it second natured, without thinking you size up the person and the home and pass judgement.

Like it or not you do it, I do it, we all do it. It's all part of our built in protective system. As soon as we enter a building or situation we judge the surroundings.

So what your window treatments whisper to your guest can make the difference between a lasting friendship and a quick acquaintance.

This may be a little over kill but this window screams neglect, I could car less what you think or don't bother knocking I'm not coming to the door.

This is a natural turn off sure to keep people away.

Now I've seen just the opposite too. I once did a job where the outside of the house looked like a million dollars. The house was sided and landscaped to perfection, the window treatment were good looking but the inside of the house left something to be desired.

The house was built on pillars and the floor was in such non repair that you had to watch were you stepped so as to not fall through. In the back of the house the wall of one of the room had caved in.

The sad part was they were spending money to make a good show but on the inside nothing but corruption.

Window treatments make the difference, they proclaim you and your family's personality. What you like, what your hobbies are and what trips your trigger.

If you are into art then your paintings should take center stage and you window treatments should compliment the art work and not fight it for center stage.

Your family like sports then tie your treatments into the sport. Golf clubs and tennis racquets look fantastic mounted on a cornice board. Baseball bats and fishing rods make great drapery roods to hang tab panels on.

Use a flexible fishing rod for a drapery rod around an arched window. Use a tab valance made out of a fishing print and you have a window treatment to die for.

Hockey sticks, polo mallets almost any sports item can be used in a window treatment.

Take a pair of ice or roller skates mount them at the corner of your window and drape a scarf swag between them.

Make the scarf swag out of an old sports jersey or two.

You can even laminate a sports poster of your favorite personality on to a smooth PVC Verticals

Into decorating as a hobby. Then use your talents to speak volumes about your family as this picture does. That's why it's so important for you to sit down with your family and determine the style for your family.

If it's a family home like mine then the kids and my wife have a big say in what style to use. I like a lot more traditional treatments than my wife, she prefers a more carefree style so we compromised and have developed this carefree traditional style that fits us to a tee.

Our house is full of ballet and cheer leading memorabilia, as that is what our daughters are into. When our son was home we had skate board scratches on the house and skate board articles on the wall.

Yes, skate boards make a neat valance or cornice for a son's window.

Don't know where to start, don't have the time to do the job yourself or just don't want to be bothered decorating then hire a decorator to do the job for you.

If you are going to hire a decorator then make sure you hire one that has you and your family in mind. If they walk in and immediately know what you need then show them the door.

You want a decorator that will take the time to get to know your family so they can create a window treatment that you and your family will be proud of. One that will stand up and shout this is what this family is all about.

Take your time to find a good decorator. They are priceless when you find them and will help you to have your window treatments speak volumes about your family.
