Window blinds cleaning and repair is a necessary evil.

Just the thought of doing window blinds cleaning and repair, can cause an anxiety attack in some people.

Well maybe not quite that bad but it's one of those jobs that is not on most peoples list of fun things to do.

Unfortunately the cleaning part you will do on a regular basis the repair only when needed.

Cleaning Window Blinds

The regular basis is up to you. It can be weekly or yearly or never. See there are some things in life you do have control over.

I'll even help you out if you choose to never clean your blinds and need an excuse just tell whom ever that Terry "The blind man" said you don't have to clean your blinds.

For the rest of you here's the inside story on window blinds cleaning and repair. It's not fun, glamorous or exciting but it's not that bad either.

Lets start with vertical blinds iconthey are by far the easiest to clean. The Pvc slats clean easy with a little windex and water. The hand prints and smudges come off easily.

The fabric verticals are a little harder to clean but with a mild cleaning agent the dirt should leave with no effect on the vertical vanes. If you have an older type vane you should test it first to see if it can take the cleaning.

Years back when verticals were the blind of choice they tried to use just about anything they could hang for vertical vane. They soon learned that a lot of those fabrics were not suitable for vertical vanes so if you are not sure what you have test a small area first.

Vertical don't collect dust the way horizontal blinds do except for the top of the valance so dust the top and forget about the rest.

Horizontal blinds are harder to clean because the do collect dust as a matter of fact they are dust magnets. They consider it their job and duty in life to collect dust.

The solid type blinds like Roman shades and cellular shades can be vacuumed with the hand wand but be careful not to let to much time elapse as the dust will build up and then when you go to clean you end up pushing the dirt into the fabric and then you have a real job on your hands.

The slated type of horizontal blinds can also be cleaned with a vacuum but it is probably easier to use a feather duster or swiffer. Just turn them to the closed position and swish away till the dust is gone. This method is faster but it puts the dust right back in the air and remember that horizontal blinds consider it their duty to collect all the dust they can.

If window blinds cleaning and repair is not your idea of fun then make a deal with yourself that when your done You will treat yourself to a nice lunch. Someplace you only go on special occasions and you will look forward to window blind cleaning and repair.

Repairing Window Blinds

Repairing window blinds is not as difficult as it sounds. The hard part is trying to find the part. Unless you know a drapery installer well enough to rummage through his truck don't even bother to look locally.

Nobody can or will carry all the parts. Each blind has their own stamped part that is particular to that blind. Not only that but the manufactures change looks and therefore stampings every few years so what works yesterday won't work today.

Don't despair there is one place where you can get just about any part you need. That one place is blindsparts.com

There are only four parts on most blinds which can be repaired. They are the cord lock, tilt control, lift cord and the tilting wand if you have one on your blind.

Just disassemble your blind till you get to the part you want to replace, take it off and compare to one at blindsparts, order a new one and replace when you get your part.

If you get frustrated or are not handy at all when it comes to window blinds cleaning and repair then forget all this and go to Blinds.com – America’s #1 Blinds Store. and order a new one.
