What is so special about an awning?
Plenty!
Just look at any real estate magazine where they showcase the houses for sale. What's on the front cover? Nine times out of 10 it will be a house with awnings! Awnings add class to a house.
Not only do they add class put they also add perceived value to the house. In other words your house will seem like it is worth more if you windown are dressed.
It is the same reason you put on a suit for a job interview. You want to stand out from the crowd, put your best foot forward and impress the heck out of the interviewer.
That is exactly what you do when you add an awning to your house. Your house stands out from the ho hum crowd and shouts here lives one awesome family.
There are two basic kinds of awnings. The permanent type and the retractable type. The permanent type is attached to the house.There are support columns at the end, usually set in concrete to support the weight. The main disadvantage of the permanent type is the upkeep and constant maintenance.
If you live in hurricane country, like I do, you have the constant threat of being torn apart by the big wind.
All of these problems are eliminated with the retractable type. You just lower the supports and the awning retracks back to the house and is protected.
With motorized retractable awnings that have the lateral arm all you need to do is push the button on the remote and the awning retracts and is secure. Now that's the American way - just use the remote. Be sure and grab the right remote as the TV or circular fan don't retract.
Some retractable awnings are made with a multi layered fabric wich will allow under your awning to be as much as twenty degrees cooler than the outside. That's a big difference! It's like having outdoor air conditioning.
