Roman Shades are Strong

You can put them anywhere you want to block out the light and have privacy. You can even put them on sliding glass doors.

To put them on a sliding glass door you would need to make them yourself, sewing roman shades, or find a drapery workroom that would do it for you.

Then reason sliding glass doors are hard to do is that most
decorator fabric only comes in 54" width. So most sliding glass door would need two if not three seams in the face fabric.

These flat type shades also demand that the seams be perfect because the fabric lays flat so a bad seam would stick out like a sore thumb.

The commercial companies that make roman's have decorator fabric specially woven for them in 100' bolts, so they can make the roman shade seamless-eliminating the need to seam the fabric.

Quality romans come lined for Sun protection duty. You have the option of using blackout lining but I would not recommend blackout due to the fact that it takes all the life out of the fabric.

Decorator fabric looks and struts it's best when light filers through the fabric. Cut out the light and the fabric looks dead-no life.

If you need to sleep during the day and want to eliminate all the light then use blackout,but think it through first.

Roman Shades are Soft

These blinds can be as dainty as you need them to be. Some of the sheerer type of shades could be accused of being down right sexy.

The fabric choices for designer shades gets better and better each day. A few years ago you could only get a few disappointing pattern the looked blah to say the least.

Two Styles

Romans come in two styles.

The conventional flat roman
The grace full hobbled roman

Use the flat style if you have a awesome looking print and you want to show off the complete pattern. Jay Yang is one designer whose 50" prints or larger are perfect for the flat roman. Center the print in the roman and it's like having a picture in every window.

Got a great
decorator fabric that has a small print but a lot of great colors that you want to show off then use the hobbled style of roman. This allows you to have the color front and center and the shade in those soft gentle folds that add to the ambiance of any room.
