3. Blackout - Blackout fabrics are by nature opaque, providing privacy and blocking the light completely.

The semi-opaque and the opaque fabrics are translucent and their colors will be influenced by the degree of light coming through them. Colors will appear to vary depending on the time of day and angle of the sun, as well as whether the shade is partially or fully lowered.

Thats the beauty of these cellular blinds. The differing degree of light coming through the shades causes the ambiance in the room to change with the time of day.

There are a couple of drawbacks to cell shades that you need to be aware of:

1. You can't see out when they are lowered and there is no way to adjust this other than to raise the shade losing your privacy.
2. They are not cleaning friendly. So I would never use them in the kitchen where they could get splattered or stained.

Cell shades come in either single or double cells. The difference being that the double cell shades are almost twice as energy efficient as the single cell shades.

Hunter Douglas the inventor of the cellular blind has come out with an entirely new concept in cell design. Instead of putting the second cell adjacent to the first, as has been the norm for quite some time, they have taken the second cell and placed it inside the first cell creating not two but three dead air spaces.

This new construction should greatly increase the R-value of these shades.
